Ongoing, one-on-one support.

The Family Legal Center (FLC) empowers parents and grandparents who do not have lawyers to successfully advocate for themselves in child support, custody, and visitation cases. Click here to view and print our flyer.

At the Center, we offer:

  • Expert legal information and assistance.
  • Help completing court documents and understanding court orders.
  • Help with objections and appeals.
  • Support group for mothers who are involved in Family Court.
  • Accompaniment to Family Court or other public agencies, such as the Child Support Collection Unit (also known as Customer Service).
  • Workshops on topics such as family budgeting, financial education, and healthy living. Upcoming workshops:

* LIFT's office is closed on days when the NYC Public Schools are closed for bad weather.

Public Transportation Directions to the Community FLC Location:
Take the 4 or 5 train to the Brooklyn Bridge Station; the C, N, Q, R, 6 train to Canal Street; the 1 train to Franklin Street.

Take the M1, M6 or M15 bus line.

Driving Directions to the Community FLC Location:
Accessible from the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Williamsburg Bridges and from the FDR and West Side Highways. Many garages in the area but extremely limited street parking. Public transportation is advisable.

All services are free and open to all adults over the age of 21 who are involved in or thinking of becoming involved in Family Court without a lawyer.
