New York, NY (January 26, 2017) - Legal Information for Families Today (LIFT), the leading nonprofit organization in New York dedicated to enhancing access to justice in the Family Courts through access to legal information and support services, has announced the selection of Cathy Cramer as its new Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Cramer fills the vacancy created by Sharon Myrie’s departure at the end of January. The selection was made after an extensive search and selection process.
Bill Silverman, the Pro Bono Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP and Chair of LIFT’s Board of Directors, remarks, “LIFT is the go-to nonprofit in Family Court, helping to ensure the safety and security of thousands of families and children each year. Cathy is a proven leader and a wonderful person dedicated to equal access to justice. She will build on the strong foundation laid by her predecessor, Sharon Myrie, to expand LIFT’s capacity to serve New Yorkers in need. We are thrilled to have her at the helm.”
Ms. Cramer is a nonprofit leader and attorney with multi-faceted experience working in the private and public sectors in New York City. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Cramer was the Executive Director of the New York Interschool Association and the Faculty Diversity Search, a consortium of independent schools in New York City that works to increase the diversity of their faculty, to strengthen their connections to public institutions in the city and to have innovative educational programming across several schools. She has been a consultant on board development, fundraising and strategic planning for several New York-based nonprofits and previously worked in the New York City Council President’s Office and for the New York City Board of Education on matters pertaining to child welfare, women's and adolescent health, and intergovernmental relations. She was the Chair of the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of New York City and is still an emeritus board member and is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Board of Sanctuary for Families, a domestic violence and anti-trafficking nonprofit.
Commenting on her recent appointment, Ms. Cramer remarks, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to join this incredible team that has a strong reputation for providing vital and high quality services to families in need throughout this city. LIFT works closely with the courts and other partners to fill a serious gap in legal services. At this time, LIFT is well-poised to expand on our excellent work to bring justice to more New Yorkers.”
