LIFT Launches Second Children's Coloring Book in New York Family Court

Brooklyn, NY – November 7, 2014 – Legal Information for Families Today (LIFT) has released its second children’s activity and coloring book, Pat the Pigeon Has Two Nests: A Birds Eye View of Custody and Visitation. The new book speaks frankly to a child about custody and visitation arrangements and addresses the child’s questions and concerns about what will happen during his/her visit to Family Court. The publication is available at LIFT’s Education and Information Sites in each of the five New York Family Courthouses in both English and Spanish.

“Our aim with the Pat the Pigeon series is to help children understand what may happen in Family Court through a story written just for them,” according to Sharon Myrie, LIFT CEO, “Custody and visitation are among the most common issues facing the families that LIFT serves.”

This is the second title in the Pat the Pigeon series and is vividly illustrated by Emmanuel Jose. The first coloring book, Pat the Pigeon Goes to Family Court was released in 2007. The latest publication was made possible with support from American Chai Trust, Laura B. Vogler Foundation, Metzger-Price Fund, New York City Council, NYU Community Fund, and Popular Community Bank Foundation.

Launched in 1996, Legal Information for Families Today (LIFT) is an award-winning nonprofit organization in New York City dedicated to empowering unrepresented litigants with legal information and compassionate guidance so that they can successfully advocate for themselves in the New York State Family Court system. LIFT’s court- and community-based programs ensure that families have the ability to access justice. LIFT serves nearly 30,000 families annually.
